Dentists use a method known as dental notation, also known as the ANSI/ADA/ISO Tooth Numbering System, to represent teeth when documenting or discussing them. It is a method of representing and linking the presence and arrangement of teeth in a dentition graphically.

How Many Different Dental Notations Are There?

The three most used dental notations are the Palmer notation technique, the universal numbering system, and the FDI global dental federation notation (ANSI/ADA/ISO Tooth Numbering System).
